Ingredients

  • 32 oz. baked beans Two 16 oz. cans
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • ¾ cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard ground
  • 1 cups beef broth use vegetable broth for vegetarian and vegan-friendly beans
  • 1 cup yellow onion diced
  • ½ cup green bell pepper diced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon ground
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Add the broth, onion, and bell pepper to a large skillet and sauté over medium-high heat, stirring often, until everything softens, after about 3-5 minutes.
  • Then, stir in the seasonings and sauces: brown sugar, tomato paste, BBQ sauce, ground mustard, smoked paprika, garlic, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until combined.
  • Pour the baked beans directly from the can into the skillet and stir to mix with the homemade baked beans sauce.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened after about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Remove the skillet of baked beans from the stovetop, serve, and enjoy!
