Can you use white cornmeal instead of yellow?

What if you still want to make this cornbread recipe from scratch?

You could interchange yellow cornmeal for white.

The taste is similar and good, but you should know that yellow cornmeal is sweeter than white. This is because one comes from white corn kernels, while the other is from the sweeter yellow kernels of corn.

What kind of cornmeal is used in cornbread?

Making this recipe from scratch? Then what’s the best kind of cornmeal to use for cornbread?

Yellow cornmeal is the perfect choice for this recipe which gives the cornbread a beautiful golden-brown color and delicious grainy texture. Still, you can substitute yellow cornmeal with white cornmeal. You’ll enjoy the same delightful taste; the only difference would be the color of the cornbread and a slightly less sweet taste.

If using a box mix like Jiffy, you’re already using yellow cornmeal!

What is the ideal cornbread texture?

If making cornbread from scratch, medium-grind cornmeal will give this recipe the best texture.

Easy cornbread recipe with corn FAQs

What is the ideal cornbread texture?

The ideal texture of the bread should be moist but not soggy.

If your cornbread is too dry or too wet, then chances are it won’t hold up to adding any toppings at all!

This cornbread recipe with corn should have a slightly crunchy exterior with a moist and chewy interior.

Skillet Cornbread With Corn

What ingredients do you need to make the Jiffy cornbread with creamed corn and sour cream recipe?

This recipe is perfect if you’re looking for a quick cornbread recipe because it requires only a handful of ingredients. You need only five ingredients to enjoy this tasty delight, replacing the cream cheese with sour cream.

  1. Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
  2. Butter
  3. Creamed corn
  4. Sugar
  5. Whipped cream cheese

What can you substitute for vegetable oil in cornbread?

You could try substituting butter or margarine instead of vegetable oil. Both are rich in flavor and will give your bread a great taste.

How can you tell when cornbread is done?

Simply follow its color; when it turns golden-brown, it means it is done.

Another way to confirm it has been appropriately cooked is to insert a toothpick in it. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cornbread is done.

How do you soften hard cornbread?

Stale bread works well when making breadcrumbs or stuffing recipes!

Softening hard cornbread is as easy as wrapping it in a paper towel and nuking it in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time.

Moistening an entire loaf takes more work but can be done by covering the top with foil before baking for 10-15 minutes or until desired consistency has been reached.

This cornbread recipe with corn is a Southern recipe that will yield a soft and tender bread because of the creamed corn and cream cheese in the recipe ingredients.

Why does your cornbread crumble?

When making cornbread, this is a common occurrence: you put all your ingredients together, and the bread comes out with a crumbly mess!

If you’re not careful with your measurements, or if you don’t follow the proper baking instructions, you might end up having crumbly cornbread.

Another factor that may lead to crumbly cornbread is adding too much cornmeal.

Will an 11″ cast iron skillet work for this recipe?

I recommend an 8″ skillet to comfortably bake this skillet cornbread with a nice thickness and density.

A larger skillet may yield a flat cornbread because the batter will spread out more in the pan.

Skillet Cornbread With Corn Kernels

What kind of baking dish should you use?

An 8″ baking pan or cast-iron skillet is perfect for this recipe.

Can you bake cornbread in a glass dish or muffin tin?

Will this bake the same in anything else?

You can use this cornbread batter to make corn muffins or to fill a glass baking dish.

Just remember to grease the glass dish or muffin tin first.

Can this recipe be doubled just by doubling the ingredients?

When scaling or doubling a recipe, it’s important to note that cook times may vary. But not necessarily by double (or half).

If you’re preparing larger or smaller portions, it’s likely to alter the original recipe cooking time. So allow for more time if making a larger portion and for smaller portions, check the dish at least 10 minutes early to see if it’s done. You don’t want to overcook or burn the food.

You can use the dynamic recipe card below to adjust the serving size for the proportionate amount of ingredients for making more or less of this cornbread with corn recipe!

How do you keep cornbread from falling apart?

Cornbread may fall apart because of an excess of flour or cornmeal, depending on the recipe.
