Spring has sprung, and so has fresh fruit!
Including yummy recipes inspired by popular vegan gummies, chamoy candy and Tajín peach rings made with real fruit.
How to make Tajín peach rings
This homemade peach candy recipe is usually made with fresh peaches.
At the time I made this recipe, we were in shelter-in-place mode, and in our refrigerator were nectarines – not peaches. So we made do with what we had in place!
What a fun way to pass the time hunkered down at home with a sweet reward, made with real fruit!
Can you use any fruit to make vegan gummies?
The recipe instructions are interchangeable with peaches, nectarines, mango, blueberries, or strawberries for that matter!
You apply the recipe ingredients and measurements just the same.
How to make chamoy candy
To make spicy chamoy candy, you’ll need only 3 ingredients. Tajín – the seasoning salt with dried chili peppers and lime. And also its liquid counterpart, chamoy hot sauce. You’ll also need peach candy rings, which you can make homemade using this recipe.
This recipe will also go over the quicker recipe with store-bought peach candy.
Tajín is a popular Caribbean seasoning, especially in Mexico. It’s now internationally famous for peach candy -Tajín peach rings, aka chamoy candy!
Tajín is available in a low sodium variety and available by other brands, like Target’s version HERE.

Kitchen equipment
Peach candy ingredients
- 6 peaches or more to yield 2 cups of puree
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 3 teaspoons of granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoon of powdered pectin (I grated the inside of a lemon peel as an acceptable substitute for powdered pectin.)
- 1/3 cup of light corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
Tajín peach rings – chamoy candy ingredients
- 2 ½ tablespoons of Tajín classic or low sodium (divided – ½ tablespoons + 1 tablespoon)
- 3–4 tablespoons of liquid chamoy hot sauce
Preparation
- Mix the powder pectin and 2 cups of sugar and place by the stove, along with the pre-measured corn syrup and lemon juice. You’ll want these ingredients handy to mix in when cooking later.
- Line a cooling dish/baking sheet with foil and grease it with cooking spray or coconut oil.
How to make homemade peach candy rings from scratch with real fruit
Instructions
1. Add the peaches to boiling water and boil for 30 seconds.
2. Remove the peaches with a slotted spoon and insert them into an ice bath until cool enough to touch.
3. Peel off the peach skin with your fingers or a paring knife. If the peel does not come off easily, try the boiling and cooling process again.
4. Pit the peaches by cutting them in half and removing the pit.
5. Add the peach halves to a blender and puree (preferred blender – the Instant Pot Ace Blender).
Use a large strainer to collect any remaining chunks. (I skipped using the strainer, choosing to keep the fresh fruit chunks in the puree).
6. Add the peach puree to a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
7. Once simmering, add the mixture of powder pectin and 2 cups of sugar. Stir the mixture well until the sugar is blended in evenly.
8. Bring the mixture to a boil.
9. Once it’s boiling, pour in your pre-measured corn syrup.
10. Continue whisking the mixture until the temperature reaches 230 degrees to obtain the proper gummy texture.
I didn’t have a thermometer handy, and this took about 30 minutes of stirring.
Pro tips:
- You’ll want to give this part of the process your undivided attention. Be cautious not to scald the mixture, and use a rubber spatula to scrape the bottom as you stir.
- Once it started to look thick, I switched from stirring with a whisk to only my rubber spatula.
11. As soon as the temperature reaches 230 degrees, add the lemon juice and stir it well.
12. Pour the heated mixture onto your prepared cooling dish and flatten it to cool at room temperature for 4 hours.
13. Now the fun part begins!
Cut out the shapes that you want for your gummies.
A baby bottle lid (without the nipple) is ideal for cutting out peach rings. If you don’t have one handy, you can use a small and a large bottle top like I did.
Pro tip: I rolled a pinch of the gummy mixture in my hands to create individual balls to make gumdrops. (The gumdrops are by far easier to shape than the peach rings!)
14. Dip your vegan gummies in the 3 tablespoons of sugar.
It’s best to wait until the end and dip the candy in the sugar to keep your hands clean.
15. Store your peach rings or gumdrops in an airtight container to keep the sugar from dissolving into the gummies.
16. Natural, sweet, vegan, and delicious – serve and enjoy!

How do you store vegan gummies and Tajín peach rings?
Store your peach candy in a cool, dry place like an airtight container with a lid.
It’s also normal for the gummies to look wet or sticky after being stored in an airtight container because the container keeps the moisture in.
If your gummies get too wet, you can leave the top off the container to dry them out. Leaving the lid off too long can also make them chewier and tougher to eat.
It’s best to eat gummies and chamoy candy within 5-7 days for optimal freshness.
